Buenaventura is a Nicaraguan brand. We stock four, and between them they cover most of the range from mild to full.
The two Favouritos sit either side of the range. The Yellow is the mild one — an Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, creamy, with vanilla and caramel coming through. The Blue is the maduro: a Mexican San Andres wrapper, dark and oily, over the same Nicaraguan base, and considerably richer. If you are not sure which end of the range suits you, that pair is the honest way to find out.
The Picadores 42 is the everyday one. It is built from the off-cuts of the tobaccos used in the more expensive BV 500, in a medium filler construction — so the leaf is the same, the format is cheaper. Nicaraguan wrapper, binder and filler throughout.
The Mini BV Maduro is a 3.5 inch by 50 vitola with filler from Jalapa, Estelí and Condega, three of Nicaragua’s main growing regions, under a maduro wrapper.
