Leon Jimenes cigars are made in the Dominican Republic by La Aurora, the oldest cigar factory in the country, founded in 1903. The brand was launched in 1987 and named after La Aurora’s founder, Eduardo León Jimenes.
We stock four. Three are flavoured Petit Coronas at 4 inches with a 38 ring gauge, which is a twenty to forty minute smoke rather than an afternoon: Bee Honey, Caribbean Rum and Vanilla. All three are built on Dominican tobacco with the flavouring kept light enough that the tobacco still comes through. They suit someone who wants a cigar without committing to a full-bodied one.
The fourth is different. The Prestige Corona is hand rolled, supplied in its own aluminium tube, and uses long filler from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Peru under an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper. Long filler means whole leaves run the length of the cigar rather than chopped shorts.
Flavoured cigars have a reputation for being sweet novelties. These are not that — the flavouring is a note on top of proper Dominican tobacco, not a substitute for it.
