Silicone is the one pipe material that genuinely does not care. It bends rather than breaks, it survives being sat on or dropped on concrete, and most silicone pieces will go through a dishwasher — none of which is true of glass.
The bowl is glass rather than silicone, which matters. Glass is what sits closest to the heat and what you want the smoke touching.
The cleaning tool comes in the box. Silicone is easy to clean because you can flex it and pop the residue out rather than scrubbing at a fixed shape.
