That is the RAW position across everything they make: leave it unbleached and uncoated. On a pipe it means no varnish or stain to heat up near the bowl, and a surface that takes on colour and character with use rather than sitting under a sealed layer.
Wood behaves differently from metal or glass. It handles heat well without getting too hot to hold, and because it is porous it takes on oils from every use — so the pipe gains character over time rather than staying neutral. That is the appeal, and it is also the reason a wooden pipe suits one thing rather than being swapped about.
