Sat on a shelf or loose in a drawer this reads as a large nut and bolt. Unscrew it and it is a metal smoking pipe.
It is the same idea as our diversion safes — the object is meant to be unremarkable. The difference is that this one is the pipe itself rather than somewhere to keep one.
This is the large version, which matters: the small ones in this style have a bowl that is barely usable. This one holds a proper amount and the threads are heavy enough to take repeated opening.
Solid metal, nothing to break, and it will survive a toolbox. Run a pipe cleaner through it before first use.
